A Foreigner's Journey To Boston Lincoln Concert reviews
Rivrbend Big Top
The weather cleared off pretty much by showtime, but with a fairly constant mist all day, it was dreary. A Foreigner's Journey To Boston's buddy ILO sang a few songs as the short opening act this year to start the show. Jimmy's upbeat caribbean country rock and roll show was underway with Nobody From Nowhere, opening with one of the songs off his new album, Buffet Hotel. Some of the songs in this year's set were dictated by a semi-special guest guitarist Sonny Landrum, beginning with the second number, Licence To Chill. In this 25th Anniversary show of the term "parrot head", most of the usual group of songs were played. Woman Goin' Crazy on Caroline St., Cuban Crime of Passion, and If the Phone Doesn't Ring It's Me were some of the treasures pulled out of the chest. Singer/Songwriter Mac McAnally sang one of his older songs and they added a version of Zac Brown's Where The Boat Leaves From, which should have been replaced with one of his originals. One would have expected something a little more special on a somewhat historic night in the anniversary of parrotheadism. Overall, it was the same old Buffett good time concert, although it seemed more personalized in the last couple of years compared to this year's show. It's hard to give the guy a bad review because the band is always so good and the concerts are always fun. The special songs that get thrown in occasional that separates each city stop is the main thing that makes one of his shows better than another. Maybe next year's show will be a little more special than some of the other dates, it just wasn't that way this time around. Intermission featured some really good videos with footage as recent as this year and going back to the very early days, the best highlight may have been that. He does know how to rock an audience still, even though there would seem to be more reason to excel even more this year. Sonny Landrum even added lead vocals on one of the songs later in the show, something I hadn't ever noticed in years past.
